Case: State v. J.S.R. (Hillsborough County)
Charges: Violation of Injunction
Date: July 1, 2024
Outcome: DIMSISSED
Description: J.S.R. left a volatile relationship. Before J.S.R. consulted Greater Tampa Law, J.S.R. agreed to the court granting an injunction. J.S.R.’s significant other stole J.S.R.’s cell phone and used the phone to “violate the injunction,” then told the police that J.S.R. was responsible. We immediately contacted the detective on the case but were not able to prevent charges from being filed. The detective simply would not listen. However, upon speaking with the assigned Assistant State Attorney, we convinced the State to DROP the criminal charge entirely. J.S.R. is immediately eligible to have the criminal charge expunged. Although we were confident that justice would eventually prevail, the dismissal saved us from the inherent uncertainty of a jury trial. It was a big win.
