Case: State v. A.L. (Pinellas County)
Charges: Domestic Battery, Possession of an Altered ID
Date: March 23, 2023
Outcome: DISMISSED (x2)
Description: This was complicated. A.L. was arrested for hitting A.L.’s romantic partner and found to be in possession of an altered driver’s license, which was charged as a felony. Fortunately, A.L. called us immediately and retained our services. We contacted the alleged victim and secured a request to not prosecute. We negotiated with the State to secure an immediate “No Information” or dismissal of the domestic battery charge. In addition, the State agreed with our argument to file the ID charge as a misdemeanor. We negotiated a PTI or Pre-Trail Intervention program for the remaining misdemeanor and, eventually, the State dropped that charge as well.
